Members recently made the short drive south of Carlyle to visit Voss Pecan Farm — and it turns out we didn't have to go far to find the largest pecan-producing farm in the entire state of Illinois.
The tour took us through the working side of the operation, including the shellers and equipment that process the pecans once they're off the trees.
From there we walked through the coolers, where the harvest is stored to stay fresh well past the growing season.
The best part of the afternoon, though, was the tasting table. We sampled several of the farm's products, and the sugar-and-cinnamon coated pecans were the clear favorite of the group.
Thanks to everyone at Voss Pecan Farm for opening up the facility and sharing a little bit of what makes their operation the biggest in Illinois.
