The Greenville Garden Club is proud to be part of one of the most exciting projects coming to our community — a brand new Greenville Public Library.
The Club has pledged $5,000 over five years to support the project, contributing $1,000 annually. But it won't stop at a check. Club President Steve Ross made clear that our commitment goes beyond the financial: we'll be bringing our gardening expertise to the landscaping design and beautification of the completed facility, helping to make the new library a welcoming and attractive space for everyone in Greenville.
The new library will be built in the 300 block of South Second Street on the former Advocate property. Construction is still several years out — estimated at three to five years — with funding coming from a combination of state grants, federal earmark money, and local fundraising. Library Board President Chance Vohlken expressed gratitude for the Garden Club's early support, noting that it "demonstrates community support for the project and could inspire other organizations or individuals to contribute."
We couldn't agree more. Community projects like this take community investment, and we're glad to do our part — in dollars and in dirt.
Once the new facility opens, the historic original library building will be repurposed, giving Greenville two new chapters in its civic story.
